This week we check in with a 6:30pm regular, Erin Leffel! — CrossFitting since: July 2015. — A little about yourself: I’m an east coaster at heart. I grew up in Pennsylvania and relocated from Philadelphia to Wisconsin about 3 years ago to be closer to family. I am still not used to the winters out here…and not convinced I ever will be. I’m an ER physician assistant and have worked at several of the hospitals throughout Milwaukee, but have most recently settled full-time at the VA. I’ve thoroughly been enjoying the tosa homeowner life for the past couple of years. When I’m not busy saving lives or working on my house, I’m usually enjoying the outdoors or planning my next international excursion. — How did you get into CrossFit? Throughout high school and college I played on intramural soccer and lacrosse teams, as I loved the competitive aspect of team sports. After graduating college and joining the workforce with erratic hours, my fitness took a backseat. When I moved to Wisconsin a few years back I wanted to intentionally join a gym that would get me back into shape. My older brother, Jordan Leffel, couldn’t stop talking about the competitive fitness cult at BCF and I figured I’d give it a go. It only took a few classes until I was fully indoctrinated. — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? CrossFit has certainly provided me with more physical and mental endurance not only for my workouts, but also daily life. Long shifts in the ER are often physically and mentally draining. Knowing I can burn off stress after a long shift is always the light at the end of the tunnel. It has also helped to provide an added focus and intentionality in my daily choices of what I eat, drink, or spend my time doing. — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? Above all else the community is what makes BCF so unique and special. I think it’s rare to find a gym where the staff and members invest and care so much about their community. I never would have imagined I’d have as many close friendships as I do now with fellow BCF members. It really is a second family.
