This week we check in with a 5:00AM regular, Julie Schmidt! — CrossFitting since: February 2016 — A little about yourself: I grew up in WI and shuffled between Madison and Milwaukee. I have finally settled in Tosa with Hoyt Beer Garden in my back yard. I am a heart transplant nurse practitioner at Children’s Hospital of WI and love working with kids and their families. I love to travel and am always looking for my next new adventure. I have dabbled in lots of sports and enjoy being active. — How did you get into CrossFit? Shout out to Liz Zimmer Schmidt who actually told me about CrossFit years ago when we would compare the latest workout trends, telling me I would love it and never go back to a regular gym once I tried it. I soon realized I was late to the party as lots of my friends were already drinking the Kool-Aid. It took a little while to finally get my foot in the door, but after some support and encouragement that ANYONE can CrossFit, I finally took the leap (into a million barfacing burpees as my first class!), and after realizing I actually didn’t die, I was hooked and came back for more. Liz was right, I will never go back to a regular gym again! — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I have never been this committed to my fitness before, aka waking up at 439 am 4 days a week to make it to a workout class! It has now become routine and part of my life that I don’t even have to think about. I love that every day is something different with a titillating combo of strength and metcon. I love feeling the hurt. I feel good knowing that I have started my day doing something good for my mind and body. The rest of the day is in the bag. I also love being able to throw the terms “WOD” and “snatches” into my daily vocabulary. — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The huge Badger community is so inspiring and encouraging! Everyone who is there is committed to having fun and sweating- it’s great! There are so many activities in and out of the box— it makes it so easy to feel welcome and part of this amazing family. The coaching staff is fantastic and never stops pushing.
