This week we check in with a 7/9:15am member Courtney DeSorbo! — Crossfitting since: Spring 2013. — A little about yourself: I grew up in Minnesota a little west of the twin cities, in Chanhassen (down the street from Prince’s studio). I played soccer and was on the Nordic ski, cross country, and track teams.  I went to undergrad at Winona State and grad school at Michigan State.  I work for Froedtert & MCW as an Athletic Trainer and I do sports med rehab at the Orthopaedic, Sports & Spine Center in Menomonee Falls and at Menomonee Falls High School with all of their injured athletes.  I live in Tosa with my amazing husband, Matt.  We met at a krav maga class (martial arts). We enjoy spending time with our families, rock climbing, hiking, and dancing to ‘Danger Zone’ in our kitchen. — How did you get into CrossFit? I kept seeing pictures of someone I knew from college doing CrossFit and wanted to try it out. — How has CrossFit changed you outside of the gym? It has improved my overall fitness, taught me more about strength and conditioning than I ever could’ve hoped to learn in school, and allows me to set a good example for my patients and high school athletes. — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The coaches are very knowledgeable and encouraging and the members are friendly and welcoming. The programming is amazing too.  Matt and I have dropped into other gyms where sometimes it seemed like the workouts were just thrown together and made to be difficult just for the sake up keeping up with the CrossFit brand.  BCF’s programming is always challenging but is organized in a way that makes sense. — Advice for people just getting started: Bring a friend or make a few new ones when you come to class.  My first 4 years at BCF I liked coming to classes because the workouts were always interesting, but I didn’t come more than 2-3x/week and didn’t have any motivation to improve my skills.  Once my husband started last year, seeing him get excited about CF fueled my motivation to get to class 4-6x/week, work on new skills (like double unders), and lift more weight.  I would also recommend participating in the Badger Affiliate Cup.
