April Featured Male Athlete: Chris Lani

Name: Chris Lani

Hometown: Green Bay, WI

Age: 28

CrossFitting since: July 2011

Favorite WOD or movement: I tend to enjoy anything with cleans and thrusters, along with box jumps. I also have a hate/love relationship with pullups. I hate doing them, but love the feeling afterward

Least favorite WOD or movement:  I generally despise rope climbs and deadlifts. My short arms make both of these movements extremely taxing.

What is your fitness background? What were you doing before CrossFit? I’ve played sports my whole life and have tried to stay active after college. I was doing the same routines and not really gaining anything from it. I definitely had the illusion of being fit.

How did you get into CrossFit? I started very briefly at Cream City Crossfit near where I was working. By chance I happened to hear an old friend of mine from high school was opening a crossfit gym only 5 minutes from where I live. It has turned out to be a very fortuitous coincidence.

How have you changed since starting Badger CrossFit? My overall energy level and focus have greatly improved. I’m not a die-hard by any means and there are many more gifted and devoted athletes that are at the gym. However, I have taken personal satisfaction as well as overall health improvements since I started

What are your goals for 2013? Where are you in terms of achieving them? Less excuses. Get to the gym, work hard, and keep showing up. My main goal is to not allow my life to get in the way of BCF, which I truly enjoy

What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The sense of family definitely makes the experience different

Any best BCF stories?  Nothing crazy. Driving home after a particularly intense day, I wasn’t able to push down on my clutch to shift and had to get out of my truck to stretch before I could get home.

What advice do you have for people just getting started?    Don’t get discouraged at first. You’ll turn a corner where everything gets easier and you’ll crave more.
