This week we check in with a 9:15/noon regular, Allyse Nault! — Crossfitting since: 2017. — A little about yourself: I’m married to Drew Nault (also a Badger member), and I’m a new mom to a beautiful baby girl, miss Isabelle. I’m also a “dog mom” to a spunky, squirrel chasing, hole digging golden doodle, Dolly. I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers), and I work in the emergency department as a physician assistant. — How did I get into CrossFit?: My friends from Chicago LOVE CrossFit and convinced Drew and I to try it. I was easily convinced as I was getting a little bored with running and group fitness classes, and I knew I needed to add more strength training to my workouts. My intention was to do CrossFit for 6 months before our wedding (to get those “toned” back muscles for my wedding dress). Fast forward 2 plus years later, and I’m still doing CrossFit. — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I feel more energized and motivated on days I make it to the gym in the morning. I also do seem to pay more attention to having proper body mechanics with lifting things like an infant in a car seat! — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? I feel like this is a very common answer to this question, but the community definitely makes Badger CrossFit unique. As kids, most of us get the opportunity to participate in and grow from team sports. As adults, you usually don’t. The Badger CrossFit community gives you a little bit of that “team mentality” back! — Advice for people just getting started: First, listen to your body. Everyone is at a different level of fitness and comes from different backgrounds of fitness. Just because the person next to you is front squatting 95# in the WOD, it doesn’t mean you have to. “You do you.” Second, know your strengths and weaknesses. Perfect your strengths, work on your weakness, and set some obtainable fitness goals for yourself to keep you going. Third, be patient. It can take a while to clean or snatch correctly, especially if you’ve never done it before (I know I hadn’t before coming to Badger!). Utilize the coaches. That’s what they are there for!
