This week we check in with one of our 6:30pm regulars, Tyler Tress! — Name: Tyler aka that guy that comes with three water bottles —
Crossfitting since: 2016-01-21 (Trial), 2016-01-25 (Bootcamp), 2016-03-07 (Function), & 2016-05-18 (CrossFit) —
A little about yourself: In no cohesive order… I’ve mostly lived in the Milwaukee area. I had a brief stint in Arizona for college, but I finished out at MSOE. I like a broad spectrum of music that would be hard to explain. Richard Feynman is probably one of my role models. I feel like he is the kind of person who knew how to live life, but not too seriously. I enjoy football season and a good trash talk about whose team is better. Some of my favorite foods are pizza, BBQ, Chinese, and tacos. Lastly, giving a shout out to the Bootcampers, the Functioners, the Closers, and the Unicorns (CrossFit Open Affiliate Cup 2017) — How did you get into CrossFit? It’s nothing too spectacular. I had never worked out prior to doing CrossFit. I moved into the Badger CrossFit area (foreshadowing) and had some time to kill. I also have plans to climb Devil’s Tower and felt I needed to get in better shape to do that. I still haven’t gotten around to doing… Anyways, I had planted a seed in my head in September of 2015 that I would spend my extra time working out if I still had the seed growing by February of 2016. I spent the five months pumping myself up. In this time frame, I started this bizarre concept of Google searching what’s near me. I found Badger CrossFit was extremely close. I had actually never heard of CrossFit before. I asked quite a few people I know if they knew what it was. The most common response I received was, and they said “that’s for crazy people.” With that feedback, I obviously dove headfirst. I did also have one person who said they knew a few people that went to Badger CrossFit before they left Wisconsin and loved it. The first Bootcamp class was to start like a week before my February plan, but I figured, close enough. I haven’t really looked back. — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I have way more clothes to wash on a weekly basis.
