Name: Ryan Essex Crossfitting since: January 2014 A little about yourself: I am 33 years old, a husband, father of three, mechanical engineer, former Division II college football player college football team member and aspiring Christian (so please forgive the occasional curse words that come out when I am attempting double-unders or missing push jerk attempts). I am originally from Monroe, MI (about 40 miles south of Detroit…Go Lions…Yay!) I went to Michigan Tech University in the upper peninsula of Michigan, lived in downtown Chicago for six years and then once my wife Jen and I had kids we made the decision to move up to Tosa because we had some college friends that lived here and we always enjoyed the area when we visited. Other than that I enjoy hanging out with my family and friends and working on projects around the house…well I enjoy the idea of the finished product of those projects, some day that happiness will be realized. In regard to CrossFit, looking back at photo documentation of my “CrossFitting Career” it appears that you will typically see me laying on the ground (Roger enjoys this as well) or standing around watching other people work out with a FitAid in one hand and a container of Recovery Powder in the other hand (Peter, Johanna, you’re doing great!). Recovery is the key to progress…always be recovering. How did you get into CrossFit? When I lived in Chicago I had a couple of friends in that had started “CrossFitting”, I said “I’m good, I’ve got 5 years of lifting and conditioning programs from college that I can use to set up my own workouts” except I never used them and when I did go to the gym, I’d do a couple lifts and quit as soon as I felt that lactic acid burn. A couple years and several soft pounds later I started looking into getting back into shape. Having seen my friends’ results I started looking for a local crossfit gym box. Thankfully Badger was near by. I emailed Tyler, and asked about joining. I told him I was a former college football player and was familiar with many of the lifts so was hoping I could skips #membermonday #badgercrossfit #testimonial #fitfam
