Today we check in with a consistent 5:30pm CrossFitter, Michelle Maternowski! — Crossfitting since: 2014 — A little about yourself: Wisconsin native, Tosa resident, 5:30 pm-er. Before joining Crossfit, I did lots of yoga and ran (slow but steady was my half marathon mantra). Now, I can run a little faster; do yoga poses that require more strength and load my own car when shopping at IKEA. Also, I'm in charge of all things digital at WUWM 89.7 FM – Milwaukee Public Radio and love it.. as well as my dog and Mike's cooking (fellow CrossFit husband is a chef) — How did you get into CrossFit? When Mike and I started dating, he talked about how great Crossfit is A LOT. So, I figured I should probably try out the thing he talked so highly about if our relationship was going survive. 😉 — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I have pretty bad anxiety. Exercise is sooo important in keeping me level and clearing my mind. Regular CrossFit workouts really help with my mental health — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? I haven't belonged to any other CrossFit gyms.. but have belonged to lots of different globo gyms and there was never a sense of community at any of those places. I think that's why it is so easy to keep coming back day after to day – I get to hangout with friends (making new friends is hard as an adult!) and push myself to do things I didn't think I could do…AND, Brad's there (Steve Rupert's dog.) I LOVE BRAD — Advice for people just getting started: Well, speaking as someone who is always towards the bottom on SugarWOD… Just keep showing up. While I'm nowhere near as strong or fast as others, I'm definitely stronger and faster than I have ever been before and that's pretty cool
