This week we check in with a regular across the board, Matt Desorbo! — Crossfitting since: October 2017. — A little about yourself: I’m from New Jersey and moved to Milwaukee for work in 2012. I met my INCREDIBLE wife Courtney in 2013, married the amazing woman in 2016, and now we live together in Tosa! I’ve been pretty active my entire life. As a kid I was involved in a number of sports, my favorites being, soccer, hockey, snowboarding, and martial arts. I spent a little over half my life doing martial arts. I practiced Tae Kwon Do for 12 years, for 6 of those years I also did mixed martial arts (MMA), and for 5 years I did Krav Maga (where I met my wife)! I haven’t practiced martial arts in a little over a year, and though I miss it, Crossfit has not only helped to fill that void, but expanded my outlook on functional fitness and how it translates to martial arts and everyday life. — How did you get into CrossFit? In June of 2017, Courtney finally wore me down and got me to try some Olympic style lifts and Crossfit style workouts. Equipment was a little limited, but we had 2 sandbags, 2 kettlebells, 2 pairs of dumb bells, and a pull up bar–more than you need for some constantly varied functional movements, right?! After the first couple workouts I was hooked, and realized Courtney was right about how beneficial Crossfit could be. In October of 2017, I started doing Function at Badger. Function was amazing, and it just added fuel to the fire. After Function I moved to the Crossfit classes, and I have loved aaaalllllmost every second of it 😉! — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? This is a tough one to put into words…sure Crossfit has helped me in my everyday life. Yardwork is a breeze, home projects are a little less strenuous, and I have more energy in general. However, at the risk of sounding like a big cheeseball, after starting Crossfit at Badger, I’ve become a genuinely happier person. Not that I was a grouch before Crossfit or anything, but I just feel more fulfilled.
