This week we catch up with one of our mom rockstars: Liz Schmidt — Crossfitting since: September 2012 — A little about yourself: I am currently living in Wauwatosa with my husband and fellow BCF'er Jeff and our 6 month old son Sam. I was born in Cedarburg, but grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so technically I'm a FIB. Although, my parents were smart and raised me as a Packer fan. I went to Marquette for college which is what brought me back to Wisconsin. On the days I'm not hanging out with the new guy in our house, I work as a nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit at Children's Hospital. I get to take care of cute babies and kids all day, so it's not such a bad gig — How did you get into CrossFit? I've always been a pretty athletic person. I played competitive soccer through my freshman year of college, and have always loved to run. However, a few years after college, I was dragging myself to the gym. Eventually, running 50 miles a week lost its appeal. I happened to be living across the street from BCF, and would see the morning classes out running down 61st street. So, I decided to give crossfit a try. I still remember my intro class and how the next day I struggled to touch my toes and sit down. I figured my body could use a change from the constant cardio, so I signed myself up — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? It all started during my first Saturday partner WOD. During the workout I hopped on the nearest pull up bar I could find. I happened to find myself hanging across from an attractive blond hair, blue eyed guy. He made some quick small talk with me about how terrible the workout felt. Eventually, he got the courage to get my number and ask me out on a date. A few years later we got married, and now we have our happy and adorable son Sam. So, thanks Tyler and Amy for opening BCF! Without you guys my life would be very different — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The coaching and the people. Getting up for a 5am WOD is not my favorite part of the day. But once I'm in the gym I'm happy I didn't hit snooze. #membermonday #motivation #fitmom #momswholift #fitness #community #hardwork #results #badgercrossfit #badgerbuilt #crossfit
