This week we check in with one of our Function rockstars, Katie Weiher — Attending Function since: August 2016 and a short bit in 2015 A little about yourself:  Throughout grade school and high school I stayed active by dancing. College found me walking a lot and sometimes swimming laps. After college I started going to the Y every weekday morning attempting (poorly) to run/weight train. That lasted until I found rock climbing (inside and outside) and running (ideally trail) five years ago. I also especially love camping and hiking. To balance out all of that activity, I also knit and read a lot. I have a fantastic dog named Owen and an equally fantastic husband, who's also at Badger — How did you get into Function? For years I've tried various forms of strength training on my own, inside and outside of gyms, but nothing ever stuck. I decided that I needed good coaching and figured I'd try out Badger. I've finally found what works for me — How has Function changed you outside the gym? An unexpected result is the stronger my body gets, the stronger my mind gets. Apparently physical strength is emotionally empowering. The physical strength gains have positively affected my rock climbing and running, which was my initial goal. However, I think I have to admit that BCF now out ranks road running — What makes BCF unique? The people, coaching, and facility! Everyone is so friendly and encouraging. While it seems that CF in general is pretty all-inclusive and supportive, I think the people at Badger make it especially so. However, if the coaching wasn't great, I wouldn't have stayed here. Everyone coach has given excellent instruction and really wants us to do the moves correctly first and foremost. The facility is so spacious that I never feel closed into a dim, dingy space even in the middle of winter. I love the large doors that open up the space even more in the warm months — Advice for people just getting started: Know that everyone was new at some point and probably felt just as overwhelmed, nervous, and self conscious as you might. #membermonday #motivation #hardwork #fitness #community #results #badgerbuilt #badgercrossfit #functionalfitness @katiwei
