This week we check in with one of our 6:30pm regulars, Jenny Barbera! — Crossfitting since: I started Elements at BCF with Coach Tyler on 3/5/12! — A little about yourself: I grew up in Lindenhurst, Illinois. I moved to Wisconsin to attend UW-Madison where I earned my Master of Accountancy degree. I have lived in the Milwaukee area working as a CPA ever since. My hobbies include golfing, reading, listening to music/going to concerts, and CrossFitting. — How did you get into CrossFit? I had played sports growing up (soccer, floor hockey, golf) and I always enjoyed being active. I was looking for something that would keep me interested and challenge me. At that time I had been playing rec league soccer, using workout DVDs, and running to stay active – but I was getting bored with that routine. I heard about CrossFit and thought it was something I should try, so I attended a free intro class at BCF one Saturday. I was nervous when I walked into BCF, but I considered myself "athletic" so I thought I would be ok. Besides, it was only a 7 minute AMRAP….how hard could it be??? After I peeled myself off the floor, I realized I had a lot of room to grow! 😂 I signed up for the next session of Elements and the rest is history! — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? CrossFit helped me realize that I am capable of more than I know. Prior to starting CrossFit I had never handled a barbell or climbed a rope. I didn't even know if I COULD do these things. Constantly challenging myself and learning new skills are concepts that carry over into everyday life. If you're willing to put in the work, anything is possible. — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The community and the energy! BCF athletes may have different athletic backgrounds, but we all have the same goal – to better ourselves. The atmosphere this creates is second to none. Athletes encourage each other and celebrate each other's accomplishments. I believe the community aspect really helps push people out of their comfort zone. Advice for people just getting started: Track your workouts! It's awesome to look back and see the progress you have made! @jbar_bera
