This week we check in with one of our consistent 5AMers, Jack Batzner! — Crossfitting since: August 2013 — A little about yourself: I like long romantic walks through the Costco meat section, spending time with my wife, and taking afternoon naps. I drink a lot of coffee, and love catching up with friends on the latest golf gossip. — How did you get into CrossFit? I distinctly remember being on the fence about trying CrossFit for all of 2013 up until I started in August. I was in college and sick of the usual gym routine (Chest Day, Leg Day, Back Day, etc.). I just got bored of the same old same old, but also didn't like having to "create" my own workout routine. I learned that my brother-in-law did CrossFit (because we all know that everyone who does it, talks about it). Even though he was a high school footballer and I a computer engineering student, I thought "Well, if he can do it so can I." Not necessarily apples to apples, but I gave the intro class a try and the rest is history. — How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? I now am used to getting up at 4:30am and try to be in bed by 9pm. I eat two lunches a day, and can normally be found outside of work at home rolling on some sort of torture device (lacrosse ball, foam roller, etc.). In addition, more people ask me to help them move, and I can hit the golf ball farther than ever before. #humblebrag — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The community is amazing, the coaches are top-notch, and the workouts are tough. — Advice for people just getting started: Just do it! Send that email out inquiring about how to get started, click the button on the form saying you're interested, or ask your friend to come along with you to a Bring a Friend Workout. CrossFit may seem scary at first, but once you meet the coaches and talk with classmates, you'll be excited to come back!
