This week we check in with a 4:30pm regular and 5 year member Evan Fisher! — Crossfitting since: I had a private class with Tyler in early 2013 and got my butt kicked doing ring rows and burpees. — A little about yourself: I grew up in Fond du Lac, WI and went to college at UW Oshkosh. After college I moved down to Milwaukee when my girlfriend (now wife), Melissa, got a job at the VA Hospital. We have two kids (McKinley and Miles) and a dog (Lola). The kids keep us busy but we love being active with them; going to the park, the zoo, Tosa pool, hiking, etc. — How did you get into CrossFit: I've played sports my whole life but after high school it was a struggle to stay active when you don't have organized team sports anymore. In my 20's I did the rec league decathlon; volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, basketball. I won a lot of championships but I still felt unfulfilled. I found myself in a routine of going to the WAC, putting my 10 minutes in on the stair climber, playing some pickup basketball, and hitting up the steam room with the old guys. Melissa heard about BCF from a friend and had been going for about 6 months before she finally convinced me to try it out. I did that private class with Tyler and almost threw up. I'm pretty sure he thought he would never see me again but I was hooked! — How has Crossfit changed you outside of the gym? I'm in much better shape so everyday tasks are easier; shoveling, chopping wood, carrying around the kids, etc. I was pretty skinny growing up but I've probably added around 20#'s since I started Crossfit. It's also made me much more aware of my health and what types of food I consume. I've made some good changes but my next goal is to really focus on my diet. — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The peg board? Of course it's the people and the community that Tyler has built. I've made a lot of friendships with people that I've met at Badger. — Advice for people just getting started: Don't feel like you need to compare yourself to anyone working out around you. If you show up consistently and listen to the coaches you will be amazed at how quickly you improve.
