This week we check in with one of our 5:30pm Function rockstars, Darin Jones! — Functioning since: 8 months in function. — A little about yourself: I live in Milwaukee with my wife and two daughters and work for Northwestern Mutual where I met my wife. — How did you get into Function MKE? I think I visited Badger when it was first opened quite a few years back and took the tour. Tyler was convincing but for whatever reason I just didn’t make the leap back then. However, 2017 was a crazy year for me personally and professionally and I needed to make some drastic changes to my life. Badger was one of the drastic changes that helped me try and have a much better 2018. — How has Function changed you outside the gym? I lost approximately 30 pounds in the first 2 months but have stopped stepping on the scale. I am more confident and less embarrassed of the guy I see in the mirror. I still have goals outside of Badger for better living and healthy living but I feel lost when I miss my three days a week at the gym. I still have at least one day a week that I have to ask myself why I’m doing this at the start of a workout but at the end of the workout I feel accomplishment. I hope the best change I’ve experienced in the last 8 months is that I’m not so angry and unhappy with life and the choices I make. I signed up for a sprint tri later this year and would never have even thought twice about that one year ago. Thanks badger! — What makes Badger CrossFit unique? Everyone says the people which are pretty ok. But I love that I just have to show up and do what I’m told. I don’t have to think about legs and arms today and cardio tomorrow or how to change it up to keep it interesting. I wouldn’t even think about an 800 meter run with a sack of 50 lbs. on my shoulders or doing a wall handstand for 60 seconds. Who in their right mind does that voluntarily!? — Advice for people just getting started: Take the leap, push yourself more than you want to and you will see results. Forget about whatever your reasons not to do it might be. I had a hundred reasons and probably still do most days.
