Make goals, not resolutions: FREE goal worksheet

With the glitter of New Year’s Eve dwindling behind us, we charge into 2017 with hope, ideals and — if you’re like many — resolutions. But what exactly IS a resolution? And why do so many of us fail to keep them? I remember being about 10 and, as midnight approached, I wrote down a laundry list of resolutions. “Be nice” was scrawled on the scrap paper. But what does “be nice” look like? What do the paths to any of our resolutions look like? There in lies the key to goals. Because a resolution is the “all or nothing” view of any change. “Quit smoking, lose weight, spend more time with my kids.” Whereas, a goal is an end point with a plan in place — the journey. So take time to set the plan. It may just be the difference between wishful thinking and actual change.
