There is a simple relationship between food and exercise:
Food provides energy.⠀
Exercise burns energy.⠀
But exercising only to “burn” the calories you consume can make it feel like there is a direct transaction happening between the foods you eat and your workouts. This mindset might make you think that the answer to weight loss is simply eating less, training more, or both.⠀
Many places with fruits in their name, globo gyms, gimmicky functional fitness places, and ‘body sculpting’ studios cater to this in the name of ‘business;’ but not really to help you. Because who doesn’t want to burn more calories?!
The main problem with this transactional mindset is that it neglects all the other amazing benefits of exercise that have nothing to do with calorie burn!
- Better stress management and reduced risk of depression
- Stronger bones and muscles
- Reduced risk of some cancers
- Reduced risk of heart diseases
- Stable blood sugar and insulin levels
- Improved cognition
- Better sleep
- Better sexual health
- Longer life
We want to exercise to live life to the fullest, not to shame the body from last weekends binge fest of calories.
Of course we at BCF HQ prefer it to be our type of training; one that that provide you real functional capacity. But any type will do, as long as it’s done right for you and in the right mindset.
