A little about yourself: I own and work for Evolve Construction where we specialize in interior remodeling. I have been in the trade for almost twenty years now. I have a wife (Jodi), two daughters (Lula 7 and Kylie 19), and our Great Pyrenees mix (Charlie). Growing up I stayed active playing hockey. In high school, I wrestled and played football. I didn’t exercise much after high school and became a pretty heavy smoke. After a close family friend passed away from cancer, I kicked my 2 pack a day habit. Soon after, my wife and I raised money and trained with Team in Training (leukemia & lymphoma society) to run the Chicago marathon in 2005. We continued to stay active by running, biking, and hiking with our family.

Background before CrossFit: Before I started CrossFit I had fallen into a pretty unhealthy lifestyle. After starting my company in 2012, I had very little time to do anything but work. I knew I needed to take care of myself but it had become too easy to find excuses not to. I worked long hours, ate fast food, started smoking cigars, and drank too much.

How did you get into CrossFit: In the spring of 2015, I took on a large Wauwatosa kitchen/bathroom/first floor remodel. My client (Mark Noller) would come home everyday talking about his gym and all these strange things called burpees, box jumps, cleans, etc. I had no idea what he was talking about but his enthusiasm really got me interested. Later, in that same year, I did a rec room for his neighbor (Josh Matson) who also talked about the same gym and he suggested I should come and check out a free class. I attended a Saturday morning function class with him and was instantly hooked (even though I couldn’t walk afterwards).

Favorite WOD or movement: I’m not sure I have a favorite yet. I enjoy all of the ass- kickings equally.

How has CrossFit changed you outside the gym? My life outside the gym has changed completely. Since I started, my wife has started working out again. We go to bed by 9PM and wake at 4AM, which is the opposite of our previous lifestyle. My wife, oldest daughter, and I just finished a whole30 which is the first diet I have ever completed.

What makes Badger CrossFit unique? The community that exists at Badger between the staff and the fellow gym members is awesome. I feel any level of fitness I want is achievable at Badger.

What time do you WOD?
5:00AM works best with my schedule and another reason why I new Badger was a good fit.

Advice for people just getting started: When I first started, I was intimidated. I thought I had to get in shape before I went. Mark and Josh told me to not bother and pushed me to check it out. They were right. The sooner you get in, the sooner you will have access to expert knowledgeable staff that can help you meet your own goals.
