While we’d like to think everything we offer at Badger is organic, there ARE some great partnerships and tools we use — and encourage others to use — which prove added benefit and growth in your health and fitness journey. If you want to find out the workouts before they happen and have a one-stop-shop for all your WOD tracking, look no further. SugarWOD is a handy app designed for coaches and members to keep tabs on workouts and results. Set up like a social community, once logged in, you can see who did the WOD, what their score was, and offer them a “fistbump” or comment of praise. A “gym newsfeed” is in the works with them too! Likewise, you can also enter your results, as well as PRs, and times for Hero WODs and The Girls WODs. You can download the free app onto your phone and get the super secret Badger CrossFit code by emailing [email protected]. The gym pays per user so we want to make sure everyone in the system is utilizing the app. If you don’t use for more than 4 weeks, we will boot you out of the app.
We emphasize mobility in the gym — evidenced by prehab and rehab sandwiching WODs as well as our Saturday Mobility class with knowledgeable Coach Alan. However, these may not be enough for some. BCF athletes also take advantage of ROMWOD (Range Of Motion Workout Of the Day), at www.romwod.com. It is a daily stretching routine which lasts about 20 minutes (except for the motherload 50 minutes on Thursdays) and goes through long-hold stretches specifically for CrossFitters. There is also a function create a personal stretching workout based on what you which body part you want to stretch. Current subscriptions run about $14/month for athletes.
KitchFix and Origins
You may have seen the fridges in the gym and wondered. These businesses offer prepackaged, fresh and quality meals for those on the go and are delivered to the gym in their fancy fridges for pick up each week. Both have options for specific diet restrictions (paleo, primal, gluten-free, etc) and vary in menu options, size, price and consistency. Both businesses offer up occasional tastings at Badger CrossFIt, so be on the lookout. If you are interested in having someone else make your meals, try them out at www.kitchfix.com and www.originmeals.com.
And speaking of eating, we encourage tracking what you put in your mouth. Because nutrition is the foundation of health, we’d like members to keep track of carbohydrates, proteins and fats (aka macronutrients or “macros”). MyFitnessPal is a Web site and phone app to do just that. After setting up your daily macro goals, you search their database for each food item you each throughout the day. You can even scan barcodes to pull up the nutritional content, pull in a recipe from its URL and see what others are eating. Set up your account free at www.myfitnesspal.com. The upgraded version is only $9.99/month.
