Crossfitting since? October 2015

A little about yourself:
I am a Senior Technology Specialist at ManpowerGroup doing technology support, reporting, and analytics. I really enjoy camping and hiking with my husband and dogs. I really have 0 athletic background. When I was young I played basketball and volleyball, however a knee injury in high school (not to mention an extreme lack of coordination and speed) prevented me from continuing sports.

Background before you started CrossFit:
In college, I lived off Lean Cuisines/Jack’s Pizzas and then would hop on an elliptical for an hour every week to burn it all off. That’s how it works, right?
After college, I began lifting weights here and there, but saw it more as a chore than fun. It wasn’t until 2 years ago that I became consistent with lifting.

How did you get into CrossFit?
After my wedding last September, I was unmotivated to get back to the gym, because I felt I had nothing to work towards. I had been interested in Crossfit for a while and decided it was time to change up my fitness routine. I registered for the free FUNCITON class at Badger and was immediately hooked.

What is your favorite WOD or movement?
Deadlifts

Least favorite?
Thrusters, overhead squats, presses, handstands… really anything that requires even the slightest amount of shoulder mobility. So, a lot.

How has CrossFit changed you outside of the gym?
Working at a desk really takes a toll on your health. Since joining, I’ve made more of an effort to make sure I’m doing some light stretching every hour, even while on conference calls. I also pay more attention to what I’m putting into my body. Changing my mindset to recognizing food as fuel has really helped me in and outside of the gym.

What makes Badger CrossFit unique?
The community. Working from home I get a bit stir-crazy and crave social interaction. I enjoy being with a group of like-minded people who are not there to give you funny looks when you collapse to the floor after an intense WOD, but rather lend a helping hand. That’s what I love most about BCF.

What time do you WOD?
7:00am

What advice do you have for people first getting started?
Yes, Crossfit looks intimidating and uncomfortable, but the moment you step out of your comfort zone is when you’ll begin seeing results. I promise, no one will be judging you…even if you can’t squat the bar or do a double under. Everyone starts somewhere.

SESSION II: TO PEE OR NOT TO PEE

Do you leak during lunges? Dribble during double unders? Is it hard to hold yourself during a sneeze or a spontaneous laugh?
Listen to Dr. Lauren Croal, of Wisconsin Orthopedic Physical Therapy, as she delves into the mysterious world of the pelvic floor and a woman’s struggle with incontinence. Learn why you pee at inoportune times and what you can do to prevent and strengthen your pelvic floor (hint: It’s more than just kegals). The session will conclude with an open-floor Q&A with Dr. Croal.
